Marbella
The Golden Mile runs from the Marbella Club to Puerto Banús, lined with villas, the Puente Romano tennis club and the beach clubs. Sierra Blanca and Cascada de Camoján climb the mountain behind with the largest houses and the sea views. The old town is charming, the marina is loud and the restaurant scene now includes serious kitchens.
The hills and Sotogrande
La Zagaleta above Benahavís is the most exclusive gated estate in Europe: 900 hectares, 400 plots, two private golf courses and a heliport. El Madroñal and Los Flamingos follow. Sotogrande, an hour west near Gibraltar, is a different world: polo, Valderrama, large plots, old families and new privacy.
Málaga
The city has become the coast’s cultural capital with the Picasso Museum, the Pompidou and a food scene that rivals Seville. Apartments in the historic centre and the Malagueta beachfront have doubled in a decade. For those who want a city rather than a resort, it is the answer.
The property market
The Golden Mile between Marbella and Puerto Banús, Sierra Blanca above it, La Zagaleta and El Madroñal in the hills and Sotogrande’s Kings and Queens zones are the addresses, at 8,000 to 15,000 euros per square metre for villas and far more for beachfront.
